Essential oils can be useful for our bodies in different ways, but we need to make sure we use them properly in order to get the right effect.
They can be used both topically and they can be ingested and below we will present you with the benefits of using essential oils on your feet.
The skin on the bottom of your feet is not as sensitive as the rest of the body and this is why it is a great place to test essential oils. Make sure you use diluted oils because they can be absorbed much easier in the body and you avoid any side effects. Also, you can use “hot” essential oils such as citrus oils, oregano and peppermint on the soles of your feet.
Reflexology is a notion which suggests that every nerve line in our body ends in our feet and certain areas on our feet are related to our body systems and organs. For instance, the left foot is connected to the left side of our body and all of our left valves and organs and the right foot is connected to the right side of the body.
Our liver is on the right side in our body and its reflex point is on our right foot. Once you start applying essential oils with the help of reflexology, you will start improving your overall health, since you will be able to target certain areas of the body.
Faster absorption and delivery
Our feet pores are thicker than our other body pores and this is why essential oils can be absorbed and delivered more quickly to the bloodstream. Additionally, the skin on our feet doesn’t contain sebaceous glands which produce sebum and that make our skin waterproof and lubricated. Without sebum our feet can easily absorb the benefits of essential oils.
Below, we present you with a list of oils which can be used for different purposes:
- Relaxation oils can be used for calming and soothing, because they promote a restful night’s sleep. If you want to relax, make sure you use lavender, ylang-ylang, and roman chamomile essential oils.
- Digestion “hot” oils include peppermint, cardamom and clove and they can help you improve the function of your digestive organs.
- Lung cleansing is a must especially in the pollen times of the year when allergies and respiratory problems are common. If you want to cleanse your lungs you can use oregano, eucalyptus and lavender essential oils.
How to mix essential oils?
Usually, essential oils are mixed with a carrier oil such as coconut, jojoba oils, or sweet almond. You can read the instructions from essential oil bottles and the common ratio is 50/50. If you want to use essential oils on kids, then use a lower mix, for example 2-3 % of essential oil per carrier oil.
